Modern Sofas for Your Hotel: The “Dalilips”

December 22, 2007

salvador_dali_and_oscar_tusquets_dalilips_sofa_kpu.jpgI’m so excited, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the four cups of coffee I’ve had! (Well, that’s mostly true.) I have a deep and abiding fascination with furniture that rides the line of tastefulness, like leopard print chairs shaped like stiletto-heeled shoes. Because of this, I’ve been on the lookout for a sofa shaped like a pair of lips – and Salvador Dali didn’t let me down.

Check out the Salvador Dali and Oscar Tusquets Dalilips Sofa. (Dalilips. It’s just fun to say. Dalilips. Dalilips. Okay, I’ll stop now.) Anyway, this sofa is a reinvention of the famous sofa in the shape of a mouth which Dali and Tusquets created in 1972 for the Mae West room at the Dali Museum in Figueres. This new version was 30 years in the making, and was presented to the world in 2004.

Comfortable Reception Furniture for Your Lobby: The Case Three

December 18, 2007

194_t2.jpgYour lobby or reception area is often the first impression visitors have of your business. You definitely want that impression to be a good one. The importance of customer service and quality goods cannot be overstated, but if the surroundings make guests uncomfortable, they won’t look forward to returning. You want your business to seem like a home away from home, a place of warmth and welcome.

You can start by revamping your reception area. So many reception areas have uncomfortable seating. Too many times, contract hotel seating is chosen for economical, rather than aesthetic, reasons. Believe me, guests want something they can sink into, especially if they have to wait for any length of time. Tell them you care about their comfort and their business by putting the right kind of seats and sofas in your waiting room.

Commercial Sofas for Your Hotel: The Genesis Chaise Lounge

December 14, 2007

402.jpgChristmas is sneaking up fast. It’s funny how we have so many visual reminders – lights, trees, snowmen, commercials on television – and yet we still put off our shopping until the last minute. Have we not learned our lesson yet?

I was browsing some commercial furniture sites when I came upon another visual reminder that Christmas is near: the Genesis Chaise Lounge from Gianni Rossetti. It probably was not actually designed with the winter holidays in mind, but when I saw it, the child in me immediately thought, “Santa’s sleigh!” I mean, can’t you imagine it overflowing with presents and being pulled by reindeer? (If you can’t, that’s okay. I’m imaginative enough for two.)

The Genesis Chaise Lounge is just a really pretty seat. It’s long and elegant. When I force thoughts of Santa out of my head, I can imagine a star from old Hollywood reclining on this seat, wearing elbow-length gloves and calling everyone “dahling”. Of course, this lounge could also be the vivid focal point of a contemporary setting. With some leopard-print pillows and black commercial cafe tables and chairs, it would look downright trendy.

Padded Furniture for Your Hotel: The Valencia I Chaise Lounge

November 30, 2007

Sometimes in my research, I come across a chair that looks so comfortable, it just makes me wish I could beam it into my living room ala Star Trek. But that wouldn’t do much for my productivity, since I tend to drift off when I’m too comfortable. So, I guess I’ll stick with my creaky desk chair for now.

valanciachaise1.jpgYou, however, should definitely check out the Valencia I Leather Chaise Lounge. It’s dark, it’s leathery, and it’s curved in a seductively ergonomic way. It reminds me of upscale hotel furniture, something you’d find in a reception area filled with fine art and exotic plants. Or perhaps on an outdoor deck overlooking a splendid swimming pool or ocean.

Padded Contract Seating: The Giovanni Baccolini ‘Penny’

November 28, 2007

Furniture has come a long way. Modern furniture is more than just a style – it’s a way of life. No longer do we have to choose between a pretty chair and a comfortable chair. Now we can have both. If your bistro chairs are a little lacking in the comfort department, it’s time for an upgrade. Believe me, there’s no excuse for hard, unyielding chairs when we have so many colorful, padded ones to choose from.

penny-chair.jpgLike the many pieces of Giovanni Baccolini’s Penny line. These are some good looking seats, but their appeal goes much deeper than pretty upholstery; they’re also strong enough to take whatever comes their way, and soft enough to seat any guest in comfort. The vibrant colors and varied styles make these chairs great for many settings, from reception seating to bar chairs. In fact, this might make for some of the most cushiony contract bar furniture I’ve ever seen.
