Modern Sofas for Your Hotel: The “Dalilips”
December 22, 2007
I’m so excited, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the four cups of coffee I’ve had! (Well, that’s mostly true.) I have a deep and abiding fascination with furniture that rides the line of tastefulness, like leopard print chairs shaped like stiletto-heeled shoes. Because of this, I’ve been on the lookout for a sofa shaped like a pair of lips – and Salvador Dali didn’t let me down.
Check out the Salvador Dali and Oscar Tusquets Dalilips Sofa. (Dalilips. It’s just fun to say. Dalilips. Dalilips. Okay, I’ll stop now.) Anyway, this sofa is a reinvention of the famous sofa in the shape of a mouth which Dali and Tusquets created in 1972 for the Mae West room at the Dali Museum in Figueres. This new version was 30 years in the making, and was presented to the world in 2004.
Thanks to polyurethane spin-molding technology using a special process which gives the piece a slightly delicate feel, it has been possible to reproduce the realism and expressive force which Dali dreamt of for this large-scale mouth which you can sit on or sink into. The sofa would be great in beauty salons, fashion stores, or night clubs. A collection of the sofas could be used in lieu of hotel chairs in the UK, for an especially playful and cheeky effect.
The Dalilips sofa comes in red and pink. If ultra-feminine isn’t your thing, you can also order it in ice or black. Its dimensions are: 170 x 100 x h. 70 cm.
Whether you’re decorating a hot nightclub or just a teenage daughter’s bedroom, the Dalilips sofa is sure to bring delight to those who see it and sit on it.
