The Virtual Furniture Shop

July 3, 2008

Imagine if you were sitting around one day in your living room, thinking that you need a new sofa… something less lumpy, more stylish, and just as inexpensive. You tried going to the local furniture shop but you couldn’t find what you were looking for. You know that to get the next furniture shop, you have to drive for 2 days. And there’s absolutely no way that you’re going to be absent from your work just to replace your lumpy old sofa. But you have this huge craving for a new sofa that you can’t even go to sleep because you keep thinking about that perfect piece of furniture.

If you had this problem twenty or so years ago, you would have been in a hopeless situation. But it’s the year 2006, we’re in an era where the closest furniture shop is located on the desk inside your study. Indeed, the Internet is one of the best places to look for furniture. That perfect sofa you’ve been dreaming of is just a click away. There are thousands of websites with thousands of choices. It’s almost impossible to not find the one you want.

But this wonderful thing called the Internet poses a new set of problems for the average consumer. Companies have seen the potential of the Internet as a marketing tool. One such problem lies in the fact that, in the Internet, you can’t sit on each and every one of the couches like you do in the regular old shops. All you have are pictures and the assurances of the companies that their products are the “best”. What if you’ve found the sofa that would best compliment your home, but when the company delivers it to you, you find out that it’s hard as stone and as uncomfortable as a bag of hay and then, when you try to send it back, they curtly reply with a “no refund”? It’d be infuriating. That’s why you need to find a company you can trust. Buying of furniture online wouldn’t be so foolhardy if you really knew where to buy.
